#FF Wonderful Weekend Review: #Psychology, #Music, #Comics & More

Thought for the Day: I almost finished this post on Friday. However, I ran out of time and needed to leave home in time to have a meal before starting to fast for the Jewish High Holiday. Today, somehow time flew by and I am just getting time to post my Weekend Review. For a non-observant person, the high holidays impact on me strongly. It has given me a great deal of food for thought which I may share over time here on the blog.

Today's magazine includes an article on what makes the brains of altruists different from others and another article on truths that even geniuses forget. Don't miss the clever and fascinating video clip from PBS with an audio taped interview with Betty Davis on feminism. There's a touching farewell video of Derek Jeter saying goodbye to his fans. You may enjoy seeing how a photo on a #genealogy blog post helped a family learn a piece of their family's history. Take a listen to a bold musical piece by a human orchestra. Finally, enjoy some funny GIFs from the classic TV show "Friends," and other humorous comics and GIFs.

Saturday's Songs for the Soul: PBS, Tom Hanks & The Dave Clark Five's Glad All Over

Thought for the Day: This week I viewed a PBS special showing of the induction of the Dave Clark Five into the Rock and Roll Music Hall of Fame. On the show, Tom Hanks presented the award to the band. The entire show was wonderful and if it is broadcast on your PBS station I would highly recommend it. Because of the show I chose a song that I might not have chosen before hearing Tom Hanks speak about this group. I remember the excitement surrounding the British Invasion of The Beatles and The Dave Clark Five, but realized while listening as an adult and a psychologist, that their songs were truly songs for the soul....

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom: JFK on Appreciation of Veterans

Thought for the Day: "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." John F. Kennedy

Last night, I watched a wonderful public television special, JFK, American Experience, WGBH/PBS. If you missed it, it is well worth searching for to view it. In light this weeks posts being focused on ways to honor our veterans (Honor a Veteran & Help Wounded Warriors Reach Higher Ground & Paying it Forward Deep in the Heart of Texas), I decided to search for a quote by JFK on appreciating our veterans & found the one above. JFK was a decorated veteran who paid the highest price to lead our country. I hope you will find ways to let veterans know that we appreciate their sacrifices for our country.

Saturday's Songs for the Soul: Mr Rogers Remixed With A Healthy Dose of Laughter

*Photo from FlickrCC.com
Thought for Today: I tend to be serious, but this video was just too funny not to share. In a previous post  (Smile It's Free Therapy) I described the benefits of smiling & laughter. Psychologists have found that laughter & a sense of humor lengthen our lives, so here's a dose of laughter for your weekend. I never knew Mr. Rogers could break dance or liked rap music, but pbsdigitalstudios
(Remixed by Symphony of Science's John D. Boswell (@MusicalScience) for PBS DS) got him to move in this hysterical remix. I hope you like it & that it brings a smile or two. Share it with a friend & help them live longer, too!
