Throwback Wednesday's Words of Wisdom: Denis Waitley & Dr. Lavi on Life Choices

Thought for the Day:  Since I am having some computer problems, I decided to do a Throwback Wednesday to post from last June. I hope you like it & have a great day!

"There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or the responsibility for changing them.” Denis Waitley

"There is one more choice in life, even if we accept the conditions as they exist, we can change how we handle them." Dr. Barbara Lavi

I agree with Denis Waitley's quote. He is a bestselling author, keynote lecturer & productivity consultant on high performance human achievement. It is surely is an inspiring call to action. It suggests that as humans, we have the choice to accept the way life is or push ourselves to change the conditions if we do not like them. Although I agree with Waitley, I would take it one step further. His take feels a bit like the photo above. If you accept the conditions as they exist, it may feel as if there are only exit signs & no real choices.

I'd like to offer an additional option. Even if we accept that conditions as they exist, we can change how we handle them. In doing so, we may find alternative ways to alter them that we might not see if we simply accepted them. We don't have to just accept & tolerate them. We can make fun of them, protest against them or search for others who want to change them.  Often when people assume that the conditions are too difficult to change they simply give up & do not take steps to even try. Sharing responsibility sometimes makes it easier to dare to take action.

#FF Friday's Fabulous Finds: Special Needs Support Map, Organizing for Action, & Liability Insurance for Gun Owners

Thought for the Day: Here are my #FF Friday's Fabulous Finds. There is a story by

Lisa Belkin about how a mother of a special needs child made sense of her intricate tasks & the support network she had to understand & utilize. See how she used her discovery to help others. The second find is about a new creative program that the Obama administration is launching to keep people involved in being the change they wish to see in their communities. Finally, there is an article by Mark E, Ruquet proposing that gun owners be required to have liability insurance for every gun they own, just like car insurance. 1) This article includes an intricate multi-colored map of a special needs child’s support system. It demonstrates how difficult it is to raise one special needs child. It shows how one mother, Cristin Lind, “learned about herself. Seeing the 70 colored ovals, each representing an area of care she (the mother of a special needs child) was expected to understand and coordinate, helped her see her life with new clarity. “No wonder we had so many piles of unfolded laundry,” she jokes.”

2) I was pleased to see the new initiative, Organizing for Action,  as a way to keep the momentum of the Obama campaign working to develop local groups working for change across the United States. Take a look at the video by Jon Carson which explains how this new initiative will work.

3) Here’s a great idea from By Mark E. Ruquet, PropertyCasualty360.com: liability insurance for gun owners. Just as drivers need to have insurance to drive a car, gun owners would be mandated to have liability insurance for every weapon that they purchase.

A Gift for Mother's Day

Thought for the day: Need a Mother's Day gift? This YouTube video created by ajj402 would be great for any mother. Ajj402 asks you to, "Please share this with your mothers, grandmothers, or any woman who has made an impact in your life." I hope that my 3 part blog post will inspire you to share here & with your mothers how the lessons your mother taught you would change the world. 

Part I: If My Mother Ruled the World Today, she would have the largest personal page on facebook. You may think Mark Zuckerberg invented facebook. Actually, my mother developed her own personal facebook not long after the zerox machine was invented in 1959. Her one woman social media platform was distributed manually (or should I say womanly) with zerox copies, polaroid photos, an electric typewriter, carbon paper & the US Post Office. She sent out thousands of copies of photos, articles & letters to relatives & friends. She kept everyone informed about her children, grand children, family & friends. Her pride compelled her to share their accomplishments. We neglected writing since we knew she would pass news on a regular basis.

My mother would embrace the new technologies & teach the world to encourage one another. She would be liking & supporting causes, sharing photos & encouraging friends, family & people she would meet online. Tune in tomorrow for how the world would be if my grandmother ruled the world today.
