Thought for the Day: I am enjoying reviewing the posts from last year' blog. Taking note of which posts had the most page views will help me continue to find and share quotes that will be of interest to you! It is a great way to celebrate our 2nd anniversary! Thank you for over 80,000 page views!! Here are half of your picks of the best words of wisdom posts:

#10 Psychiatrist Thomas Szasz on Creating One's Self 5/15/13
#9 Karen Horney on Pride provides an interesting quote by one of the early feminists what was a male dominated field of mental health. 4/3/13
Thought for the Day: This week we are focusing on our love/hate relationship with FREE offers. It is surprising that it is hard to find good research or quotes on this topic. This morning I had an e-mail from one of my intern, saying he had trouble & the only quote he found was a well known anonymous one, "The best things in life are free." It did not seem like the best quote to use for this post, so I set out to find a better one myself. I must admit, it was not easy. I found a few, but nothing to write home about! For example there was this quote by a model, Cindy Margolis: Makeup artists are always giving me their stuff. My favorite thing is free stuff. I'll take anything.. Then there was this one by comedienne, Aubrey Plaza:
However, that did not seem like what I was looking for either. Finally, I found the quote featured above above by Steve Jobs: "My favorite things in life don't cost any money. It's really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time." It needs no explanation & is even more powerful knowing of his valiant race against time when challenged by cancer. He certainly used his time well. He will be remembered by his earth changing innovations & generous gifts to humanity.
Steve Jobs did not talk about free offers in any of the quotes I read. He did pay special attention to the importance of creating great innovative products which became the hallmark of Apple's success. What his words of wisdom add to my deliberations about a "Free" offer of my e-book is that any free offer must be worthy of the time someone spends taking advantage of it. Since I am sure reading my book will help you change your life, I am confident it will be a great opportunity. I know it is well worth the time you spend learning the techniques it teaches. I hope you will stay tuned & download it as soon as you can. Then, I hope you will share your comments, recommend it to your friends & encourage them to take the time to learn from my book as well. I will be sure to let you know before the campaign starts. Have a great day & spend your time wisely!
Thought for the Day: I decided to do more for fathers this week & made this short video clip using photos I found for Sunday's photo montage & quotes on fatherhood. I wanted to give the photos better exposure! Do you have any favorite quotes about fatherhood? Please share them. They may show up in another post. Have a great day!
Thought for the Day: In previous Monday's Words of Wisdom posts I have posted quotes from psychologists like Stanley Milgram or educators like Maria Montessori. Today, as I prepare for presenting tomorrow at the Museum of Motherhood conference in NYC: A New Motherhood? on the changing roles of mothers, I decided to bring a few quotes well known writers, an artist, & an Olympian speaking about there mothers. These quotes give an interesting perspective on how mothers build self esteem & the enhance their children's DQ (Dream Quotient) (TM) or ability to believe in & pursue their dreams. I hope you enjoy them & come back for the answer to Tuesday's Psychological Trivia Question.
My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it. Mark Twain
My mother taught me very early to believe I could achieve
any accomplishment I wanted to. The first was to walk without braces. Wilma Rudolph (Olympic Gold Medalist)
There's no such thing as a nonworking mother. Hester Mundis (Writer for Joan Rivers)
-->“Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of
darkness, & the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by
sadness.” C. J. Jung
Thought for the Day: In addition to What if? Wednesdays with short video posts, I will be adding a new series. On some blogs Wednesdayas are called Wordless Wednesdays. As a psychologist, it's hard for me to go "wordless." Therefore, I've decided to do a psychologist's version of Wordless Wednesday with Wednesday's Words of Wisdom & will post interesting quotes from other psychologists. Today's quote is from Carl G. Jung a contemporary of Freud. Given that he lived from July 26, 1875 till June 6, 1961, his take on happiness & sadness is quite interesting. What are your thoughts on this quote?

Thought for the Day: I had a very busy day and decided to repost this Motivational Monday post from last March 2013, when I started this blog series of motivational posts. Have a great start to the week. I have sad news to tell you. Yesterday, 6 and 1/2 year old Katy Sullivan, the rockstar heart transplant recipient passed away. She had a year and a half with her new heart and was able to return to dance lessons and lead a normal life for some of the time, but a couple of months ago started a downhill slide. There are 3 posts about Katy: How to Heal Broken Hearts, Better Than the Oscars, Let It Go from Songs for the Soul.
Thought for the Day: My daughter sent me an image of an anonymous inspirational quote on facebook this week which said, "when nothing goes right... go left." She sends me quotes & images when she finds one that she thinks I might want to use in my blog or on my facebook page (where I post creative images & quotes). I loved the quote which came in simple black ink on white background (see photo on right). However, I felt I needed to expand on it. The image above begins to give my take on how I help people explore all the options when nothing seems to be going right. I decided to use it to offer four tips to help you find alternatives when nothing seems to be going right. Feel free to ask questions about my new quote: "when nothing is going right to go left, up, down, around, under & anyway you can to make things work better. - Dr. Barbara Lavi"

#FF Wonderful Weekend Review: Fabulous Finds from Psychology, Art, Music, Quotes & Comics Plus Delbert McClinton
I haven't posted on my blog for some time & decided to repost some of my older blog posts. Hope you have a great weekend & enjoy this weekend review:
Thought for the Day: Here's #FF Wonderful Weekend Review for your pleasure. There are some interesting articles to read about psychology, parenting, the impact of sleep on honesty, things you can do with your iphone and a touching way that social media helped a grieving stranger. In addition, to an TED video on how playing music impacts on the brain, a video of musical swings that light up, there are two music videos of new artists: Beyond The Veil - Lindsey Stirling, an amazing violinist (Original Song) & a song, My Silver Lining, by two sisters, First Aid Kit. There are more great comics, Gifs and quotes. Hope you enjoy the magazine & have a great weekend.
I'm not sure how to mix videos that I make into the magazine, but wanted to share some music from Wednesday night's Jazz Up July 2014 Delbert Mc Clinton concert in Stamford. The grammy award winning artist was wonderful. His backup band was equally phenomenal. The 1st piece is "Honey Can You Squeeze Me In," the 2nd is a xong called "Why Me," and the 3rd is a clip from Kevin McKendree, the keyboardist's new album. Excuse my poor clipping, but it gives you an idea of some great musicians to check out!

| The Many Faces of Mothers' Love |
My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it. Mark Twain
My mother taught me very early to believe I could achieve
any accomplishment I wanted to. The first was to walk without braces. Wilma Rudolph (Olympic Gold Medalist)
My mother said to me, "If you become a soldier, you'll
be a general, if you become a monk you'll end up as the pope." Instead, I
became a painter and wound up as Picasso.
